Glass Japanese Joinery

As a woodworker and a digital fabricator, I have been inspired to combine my passion for Japanese wooden joinery with my love for glass and 3D printing. Creating glass joinery pieces in a transparent material to shows the intersection of beauty and functionality in this traditional woodworking technique. There is something mystifying and intriguing about creating structure and precise geometries out of a material that is fragile and delicate. This past summer, I took a course at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington with Fred Kahl to create CNCed graphite molds to hot cast into. I created a dovetail joint mold that is easily replicated for mass production. I plan to further explore more glass joinery with different methods of digital fabrication and mold making in the future and aim to combine the glass joinery with other media, such as wood, cork, and concrete.
