Bio

Rebecca Erde’s industrial design and art practice are grounded in interdisciplinarity, making, and experimentation. Born and raised in New York, Erde received a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis in 2015 and returned to graduate school for her Masters of Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2019. She completed her thesis, Designing Resiliency: Products for Mental Health. Erde’s diverse background in architecture, woodworking, metalworking, and digital fabrication allows her to approach design and glass making through an unconventional lens. After graduating from architecture school, she worked as a furniture designer and woodworker in the Brooklyn Navy Yard for two years. At RISD, she continued studying kiln casting, furniture design, and other forms of digital fabrication and design. She has worked in healthcare design, furniture design, and fast fabrication at scenic studios. She currently is Makerspace Coordinator and Engineering Faculty at the Dalton School in NYC. She teaches freelance at UrbanGlass and for Dykes With Drills.
